CURRENT
The head everyone’s talking about.
Haircuts, color and scalp therapy by Joshua Campbell. Suite 22, The Hive Salon Suites, Richmond, VA.
About Joshua
I’ve been doing hair since 2007. I studied at the Aveda Institute in New York, learned to cut with Toni & Guy, and have worked behind the chair in New York City, Austin and Richmond, spending the last 13 years at 1213 Hair Studio. Nineteen years in, I still think a haircut is one of the most personal hours you can spend with someone. You trust them with your head, your energy, and with how you walk back out into the world.
CURRENT is for people who want to be listened to, not talked at. People who find salons a lot: too loud, too fast, too much. People in the middle of something, whether that’s a new job, a breakup, or a grown-out color they’re ready to let go of, who want a cut that fits who they’re becoming.
Cuts are priced by the hour, so you’re paying for the time you’re in my chair, not a guess. Color is booked in tiers. And if you’ve never had scalp therapy, start there. It’s a slow, quiet session with no small talk, just breath, touch and a full reset from the neck up.
I’m also a shamanic practitioner, so if you want a card pulled, a breath reset, or an energetic check-in tucked into your appointment, just ask. If you don’t, you’ll just get a really good haircut.

The space
CURRENT isn’t just a room I work in. It’s my offering to this community: the place where I show up for people, and where I keep my promise to steward nature and humanity toward right relation and balance.
It’s an inclusive, safe space, built with neurodivergent people in mind. I’m ADHD and autistic myself, so I know how much a room can ask of you. Here you can ask for silence. We can go easy on scent, soften the light, or change anything else that helps you settle. Just tell me what you need.
And the door is always open to conversation. CURRENT is about building community, one person at a time.
Good to know
- New guests start with the one-hour haircut or a 15-minute consultation. It’s a framework that works for most people, not a wall. If your hair needs something different, reach out.
- Appointments only. There are no walk-ins at the suite.
- If money’s a concern, talk to me before you disappear. I’d rather see you in the chair. I also hold a few spots in an income-based pricing program, so ask me about it.
- I use Hair Story for washing and styling, and Davines for color and the shampoos and conditioners in my scalp therapy. Products are ordered online and shipped straight to your door.
